Student Focus Group Questions for SPSA (SCHOOL PLAN) REVIEW
What do you need from Comstock to help you become college and career ready?
Students are asking us to address life skills, note taking and information about career pathways. They need more time to finish homework at school. WE ARE ADDRESSING THESE NEEDS IN OUR NEW SCHOOL PLAN.
What life skills do you need that you wish a teacher would teach you?
Students were happy with the academic skills they were learning. They would like the school to help them with more life survival skills: budgeting, handling finances and filling out college applications. They also are asking teachers to slow down and make sure they understand what is being taught before they move on.
What connects you to school? What would connect you to school?
There were a variety of student responses on this question. The responses definitely support the comprehensive school model where many curriculum choices are offered: sports, band, art, Project Make, drama, etc. Friendships with peers and teachers are important as well.
What is your opinion on the work we are doing with chromebooks? Is there more support we can give you in technology?
Every student questioned was happy with the school’s incorporation of chromebooks and google apps into the curriculum. The overwhelming majority of the responses felt that we had it just right. They especially love that they can access much of the curriculum and information online from home. They were happy with the training they are receiving and the teacher’s willingness to provide engaging, relevant projects that use technology.

¿Qué necesitas de Comstock para que te ayude a estar preparado para la universidad y listo para una carrera?
La mayoría de los estudiantes están pidiendo apoyo adicional en matemáticas, especialmente problemas de palabras en matemáticas, ya sea a través de la tutoría o una clase de estudio electivo. También quieren más información sobre las opciones universitarias y de carreras profesionales con invitados de diferentes profesiones, así como ayuda para llenar aplicaciones para la universidad. Además, quieren que proporcionemos más apoyo de consejería académica y asistencia sobre la forma de mejorar las calificaciones.
Por último, consideran formación para hablar en público sea importante.

Los estudiantes estaban contentos con las habilidades académicas que estaban aprendiendo. Les gustaría que la escuela les ayude con más habilidades de sobrevivencia como: presupuestos, manejo de finanzas y como llenar aplicaciones para la universidad.

Había una gran variedad de respuestas de los estudiantes sobre esta pregunta. Las respuestas definitivamente apoyan el modelo integral de la escuela donde se ofrecen muchas opciones curriculares como: deportes, banda, arte, Proyecto Make, teatro, etc. Las amistades con los compañeros y maestros son importantes también.
¿Cuál es tu opinión sobre el trabajo que estamos haciendo con Chromebooks? ¿Hay más apoyo que podemos darte en la tecnología?
